Black History Month Fest

Screenings 1 pm - 6 pm Talespinners is a groundbreaking multicultural animated series for children produced by the National Film Board of Canada. It features 8 stories, combining the talents of contemporary filmmakers and storytellers from Canada. Screening times: 2 - 3 pm 4 - 5 pm Black Film Festival Wales presents a series of short films by black Welsh filmmakers, for older audiences. Screening times: 3 - 4 pm 5 - 6 pm Workshops: 1 - 2 pm Black History UK Open to all ages 2.30 - 3.30 pm Interactive storytelling workshop with Atinuke (Nigerian - Wales storyteller will be leading a workshop which will end with workshop participants creating original work. The work will be posted on the griots.net web site following the event) 4 - 5 pm Dub poetry Workshop with Michael St. George (Jamaican Canadian dub poet, performance artist and writer) 5.30 - 6 pm Dub music workshop with UK legend Dennis Bovell (produced Bob Geldof's Boomtown Rats, and other British artists) Concert begins at 8 pm with: Roots (women in Jazz trio) - a multimedia show about the history of black music in Wales Atinuke -- storyteller (Nigeria/Wales) Zein Simone -- new British acoustic singer/songwriter accompanied by Steve Wellington from Project X Cyndy Stith & 2 a.m. -- Hereford based acoustic rock trio DJ Asif (Fusing Naked Beats) -- cutting edge Asian UK DJ Ilonga Nkoso & Kawele Mutimanwa from Kasai Masai -- African acoustic music Dennis Bovell and the International Dub Band -- UK reggae dub legend Michael St. George -- Jamaican Canadian dub poet
